Reflection Eternal (Hi-Tek and Talib Kweli) talk to Hard Knock TV’s Devi Dev about the impact of Dr Dre’s Chronic album and how Gansta rap dominated music in 1993.
Hi-Tek also talks about being signed to Dre’s aftermath label as a producer, how Dre is a mentor to him and how people perceive Dre. He also talks about the status of Detox. Some memorable quotes from this interview from Tek:
“If you cant make the Dre cut That’s your fault”…”Dre has built nothing but superstars”…”You don’t deserve producer credit if you don’t produce, just because you make a beat doesn’t make you a producer!”

Eminem, whose new album is expected to top the U.S. pop chart next week, made a rare appearance at a music-industry bash on Friday to honor Dr. Dre, the hip-hop pioneer who made him a superstar.
Dr. Dre received the Founders Award for career achievement during performing rights group ASCAP’s annual Rhythm & Soul Music Awards ceremony at a Beverly Hills hotel. Dr. Dre rose to fame in the 1980s as a member of rap group N.W.A. before going solo and launching Death Row Records. He also shepherded the careers not only of Eminem, but also 2Pac, Snoop Dogg and 50 Cent, and produced recordings for artists as diverse as Gwen Stefani and Mary J. Blige.
“He believed in me when not many others did,” Eminem told the audience. “It would have been a lot easier for Dre to dismiss me like most people did: What’s with the white guy from Detroit that raps with a funny voice? But he didn’t. He stepped up to the challenge because he saw something in me.”
Dr. Dre signed Eminem to his Aftermath Entertainment label in 1998, and his protege is set to score his sixth consecutive U.S. No. 1 album next week with “Recovery.” Eminem generally avoids big showbiz events, preferring the seclusion of his Detroit home. He did not even show up at the Academy Awards in 2003 to collect his Oscar for best song.
For his part, during a speech filled with pauses as he fought back tears, Dr. Dre said he was “living an incredible life,” and paid tribute to his mother, who got pregnant with him when she was 15.
“She was always told by family, friends and neighbors or whatever she was going to ruin her life and mine,” he said.
Dr Dre says Detox is coming out by the end of this FALL, says he wants to make sure he give everyone what they are waiting for so they are not disappointed? Dre also tells HardKnock.TV’s Devi Dev in this interview that the “Under Pressure” leak featuring Jay-Z is not a finished song, its not blended right and there is no hook on it yet! Ps the lovely lady next to Dr Dre is his WIFE!
This interview took place at the 23RD ANNUAL ASCAP RHYTHM & SOUL MUSIC AWARDS where DR DRE received the ASCAP’s Founders Award.

Last night (May 26), Monster and Beats by Dr. Dre launched the nationwide availability of Diddybeats, the in-ear headphones that are sold exclusively at Best Buy and Best Buy Mobile. The co-founders of Beats by Dr. Dre, West Coast trailblazer Dr. Dre and Interscope/Geffen A&M Chairman, Jimmy Iovine, welcomed entrepreneur and fashion maverick Sean “Diddy” Combs into their family, in more ways than one.
“Dre and I wanted to design an earbud that was a combination of great style and powerful sound,” said Jimmy Iovine. “Diddy was the perfect choice for this because he’s a pioneer in marrying music with fashion.”
Scott Storch has his first sit down interview in over a year with DJ Skee. Storch talks about being in Los Angeles for the past few months working on Dr. Dre on Detox, if Detox is really coming out & producing the first single “Under Pressure” featuring Jay-Z.
Dr. Dre and Interscope’s Jimmy Iovine discuss their new $350 headphones designed to enrich the digital music experience with CNBC’s Maria Bartiromo.
Ludacris has revealed his admiration for Eminem and detailed his ghostwriting for Dr. Dre’s long-awaited album, Detox.
“I always wanted to work with Dr. Dre and I got a chance to work with him and then Eminem, I’ve talked to Eminem so hopefully we can make that happen,” Luda said about collaborating with both artists. “I was definitely doing a little ghostwriting but you know, we’ll see what happens. He has a lot of different tracks that he has to choose from for the Detox album so it is what it is. I think he has the chemistry and exactly what everyone wants, it’s about staying innovative, being yourself and always have the good music. Good music will last throughout the ages no matter how things change and he always produces some good music.” (Young Hollywood)
Murs, the self-proclaimed back-packer, helped headline the VIBE’s “Respect the West” showcase at SXSW, but not before vowing to buy WeNeedDrDre.org and explaining why Detox can help rejuvenate West coast rap.
Don’t write off Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre just yet. Fans who enjoyed the Dre-executive produced “Doggystyle” back in 1993, have been yearning for the two West Coast giants to collaborate on another LP for the past 17 years. They worked on tracks here and there(“B*tch Please, “Imagine”), but haven’t come close to releasing a joint project. Fear not. To let Snoop tell it, Dre producing one of his upcoming albums isn’t that far-fetched.
“What is the possibility of a Dr. Dre-produced album from Snoop Dogg?” Snoop pondered during a sit-down with BET.com. “I’d say about a 90% chance it can happen. You know, the 10% that lies out there is about availability as far as from Dr. Dre, not me, because I know and understand that I’m good, but when I’m with Dr. Dre, I’m great.”
In related news, Snoop is set to guest host BET’s “The Deal” starting with this morning (March 18) at 3 a.m. He’ll also guest host the show on March 19 and March 23. (BET.com)
