On Sunday night, April 22 when he’s set to close Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, Dr. Dre posted a video message from the backstage of the event. The rapper thanked his fans for all the support they gave to him, and took time to talk about rumors suggesting he would tour with a virtual Tupac Shakur.

Wearing a white t-shirt and cap, the Doc said to the camera, “It was strictly for Coachella, get it right. I want to get rid of all the rumors out there. This was not done for a tour.” He, however, didn’t completely rule out the possibility, “If a tour happens, we’ll see. This was done strictly for Coachella 2012, just for you.”

Snoop Dogg and Dr Dre were joined onstage by surprise guests 50 Cent, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, Warren G, Kurupt, Wiz Khalifa, Tony Yayo, Mr. Porter and a Tupac Shakur hologram. Fans were stunned by Shakur’s eerie involvement in the show, with one fan branding Snoop and Dre’s stint at Coachella “the best rap concert of the decade.”

As if that wasn’t enough, Wiz Khalifa also joined the West Coast hip-hop legends for the anthem of the weekend, “Young, Wild and Free,” which had the crowd singing the chorus in unison: “So what we get drunk/ So what we smoke weed/ We’re just having fun/ We don’t care who sees/ So what we go out/ That’s how it’s supposed to be/ Living young and wild and free.”

Kendrick Lamar — who performed an afternoon set on the main stage Friday — also joined the pair for “The Recipe,” his new joint featuring Dre, who introduced him as “straight outta Compton.”

After their own “The Next Episode” and “Deep Cover (187 on an Undercover Cop),” Dre and Snoop covered House of Pain’s “Jump Around.” The hardest moment of the night came when 50 Cent stormed the stage for “What Up Gangsta” with Tony Yayo by his side, segueing into “P.I.M.P.” with tropical calypso steel drums and his 2003 breakthrough hit, “In Da Club.”

Snoop paid homage to his late homey Nate Dogg, performing “Ain’t No Fun” alongside Kurupt and Warren G as the screens displayed photos of Nate, Snoop and the rest of the Dogg Pound.

The appearance of the late Tupac in very realistic hologram form, which was amazing to some and creepy to others, brought “Hail Mary” and “2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted.”

Capping their historic set with “What’s My Name?” and “Still D.R.E.,” Dre and Snoop disappeared below the stage with the Good Doctor proclaiming to the adoring audience,

The Coachella festival, which commenced in 1999 on the desert lawns of the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California, has grown from 25,000 attendees overall to 75,000 people a day, and has become an important platform for alternative rock, rave and electronic music acts.

“The Recipe,” originally titled “Women, Weed & Weather,” is an ode to the essentials of West Coast living. “When you discuss your love for lust/ Just make sure you visit here first/ Cali,” Kendrick Lamar rhymes on “Recipe.” “Old title was ‘Women, Weed & Weather,’ Dre told Big Boy. ‘That’s the three things you need in life. ‘The Recipe’ is when you mix it all up,’ Lamar chimed in.

“This track was done by a guy named Scoop DeVille, and we just went into the studio and added our elements to it. I mixed it up. Kendrick wrote the words. It came together and we fell in love with it,” Dre said.

‘Epic studio Time’ – Pharrell Williams has posted a teasing snap of himself and fellow hip-hop heavyweights Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg and Breyon & Eric Hudson in the studio.

Dr. Dre will close the 2012 edition of the annual Indio festival, to be held for the first time over consecutive weekends, the first April 13-15 and the second April 20-22. Headliners for the multi-weekend, six-day affair include rock acts the Black Keys, Radiohead and the Shins, as well hip-hop and dance acts Snoop Dogg, the Swedish House Mafia and Kaskade, among many others.

Tickets were initially sold for the 2012 festival nearly a year in advance of the event. Three-day passes went on sale via Coachella’s official site for one week in June. In prior years, tickets were not sold until the lineup had been revealed, and were sold via Ticketmaster. Tickets were once again priced at $269, not including service fees. Goldenvoice had earlier said that if tickets remained after the one-week presale, they would be made available once the lineup was announced.

Though Coachella will close with a double hip-hop pairing of Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg on the two Sunday evenings, rock acts will get top billing the other nights. Bluesey rockers the Black Keys will anchor a Friday that will also feature singer-songwriter Cat Power, reggae legend Jimmy Cliff and psychedelic electronic act M83. Radiohead will close the festival’s Saturday evenings, with breakout indie star Bon Iver, reclusive indie rocker Jeff Mangum and noIse instrumentalists Godspeed You Black Emperor also on the bill.

As Dr. Dre’s much-delayed album, “Detox,” awaits a release date, the iconic producer is still in the process of recording new material according to fellow MC, T.I.

“Dre was here. He sent for me over to the spot. We really just turned up more than anything else. It was about creating chemistry,” T.I. told MTV News while he was in Atlanta preparing for the New Year’s Day release of the mixtape. This isn’t the first time that the King of the South has collaborated with the California legend. A few years ago, “Topless,” a song that was said to be recorded for Dre’s oft-delayed Detox, leaked onto the Internet. According to T.I., their most recent session was a fruitful one.
